MUSTARD SEED MIGRANT GRANT
by Roberta Longfellow
This past summer, Grace United Methodist Church received a $2,000.00 grant from The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). This funding was to assist immigrants who are being affected by the Federal Administration’s toughened policies of increased detention and deportation.
The grant’s purpose has been completed, with six families of varying sizes from two to six receiving gift cards for food at local groceries and two families with a total of nine persons receiving rental assistance to help maintain their housing.
In addition to the grant funds, Grace Church members gave 346 pounds of non-perishable food and $245.00 in cash for gift food cards.
Thanks to Cindy Cary and Rebekah Augustus, who helped implement elements of the project and keep data records. Our appreciation to others from the Miami Valley Immigration Coalition who helped in selecting the recipients.
We are proud to be part of the United Methodist Church, which stands firm in loving our immigrant neighbors and using resources to provide food and rental assistance in this very difficult time.
