Grace Urban Development is the 501(c)(3) organization that was started by Grace UMC to administer community outreach programs. One of their most successful programs is Dayton Cooks! In case you aren’t familiar with this program, here is some information:
Dayton Cooks! is a free 10-week program that trains students age 18 and older for jobs in the food industry. Students work with a professional chef staff on a culinary journey. Ingredients provided through donations feed hundreds of children in Dayton after-school programs. The classes and cooking happen in the kitchen at Grace United Methodist Church.
At the program’s end, students are proficient in basic knife skills, classic cooking techniques, kitchen operations, and food safety. They are prepared for ServSafe Certification and receive help with job placement and mentoring.
