The Mustard Seed Migrant program of UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief) has awarded Grace a grant of $2,000 to assist with emergency food and rent needs of our migrant sisters and brothers. Last week we published a list of items that can be donated to this effort. There are other ways you can help, as well:
-
Working with the Miami Valley Immigration Coalition (MVIC), Grace will identify mothers/caregivers with children experiencing critical loss of income due to detaining of household breadwinner.
-
With MVIC assistance, determine amount of food or rent relief to commit to identified households.
-
Arrange the transfer of rental payment to landlords and food vendors.
-
Keep records of recipients using safe IDs, dates and amounts of assistance, and names of congregational members involved in activities.
The term of the grant is only for six months, so any time commitment is limited. Grace will be working with the MVIC, and their expertise will provide needed guidance. Please contact Roberta Longfellow at longfellowroberta@yahoo.com with any questions and/or to volunteer.
